Bro, I no tooth fairy but I think it's too late unless you really sacrifice all of whatever you have now, getting the wrath of your family and give 100% in football ...
Even if you do this and cry tears of blood, doesn't guarantee you will be a professional.
But all the best ...Last edited by addymuliady; 31-01-2010 at 09:07 PM.

Re: Carving out a career in football
a 16 yr old 'special player' doesnt mean he will be a 'special' 26 yr old player..and vice versa... what i am trying to say is its never too late.. now u may think u suck but hey next 2-3 yrs ure gonna get better...
for me i think im not that good nor skill ...but lazy to develop n be serious with it..got slack..became fat.. but i always dream of becoming a good player.. now im below average..cos i just sit, laze and not focusing on soccer. cant turn back time.. now support the national team only lah..lol

You got no injuries... still can run... can kick... just go for it....
There are many others out there who want to kick a ball but cannot for reasons beyond their helpBaring their hearts,oh those glorious souls
The mantra they chant, of "We WANT GOAL!!!"
Be it a triumph, a loss, they never felt sold
An ode to the fans, for Kallang still roars so behold!

Re: Carving out a career in football
Hi there geekhiang. JCs do accept new soccer players who do not have experience at sec sch level, but you will have to go through the trials that they have organised. I suppose you are now in sec4, so throughout this year do start enquiring about the trial dates some schools may have. From what i know, many JCs actually welcome sec4 students to train with them so they can take a closer look at them. You do not have to be the finished product to get selected, they are looking at potential. I know of quite a few people who have played JC football without any prior experience at competitive level.
As an alternative, you can start joining social/amateur teams and train with them on a regular basis (if you can't find a soccer school). Besides JSSL Arsenal, you might want to check out International Soccer Academy(ISA). Like many people here have said, play street soccer. Work with the ball EVERY SINGLE DAY. juggle, pass, dribble, control, shoot. Work on fine-tuning your technique.
Just like you, i didn't pay much attention to training myself. I only really got started in sec sch, when i was curious about the sport but had no idea how to play it. My friend pulled me along to join my sec sch soccer team in sec1 and the next year, i made the school team. i made the team again in sec3 and sec4. so it's actually possible to learn the game still as long as you work on it. no guarantees whether you can become a professional, but i would say explore football now first and think about the career later. just play the game and if you're good enough, you will make it.

Re: Carving out a career in football
forget about tactics first if you are a newbie.
basic skills first (Coerver basics skills, research on this)
-its not just dribbling, shooting.
-its about Turning, trapping with only one touch, rolling the ball
fitness first (run 10km 3 times a week, sprint 11-12s 100m, jumping high)
do it at a proper football school would be ideal.
But given that you are looking for a career broadly and talking about JC. You should consider other options like
a) Referee .. Singapore is quite good at this in Asia, since we have regular representatives at World Cup.
-Better chance than playing!!
b) Coaching
c) Sports Management, how to run a club etc..
d) Physiotherapy!Last edited by evant; 22-03-2010 at 07:17 PM.

Re: Carving out a career in football
Finally I realised Im not alone in this.... hey all... im new in this forum and like the person who posted this, I am trying to make a career out of football at a late age of 16....been practising real hard for close to a year now... I am about to turn 17 as I await school term in temasek poly to start. likewise I am aiming to get into the soccer team there. Been playing street soccer at my neighbourhood area... any tips for ball control and dribbling? because I realised that I still have a problem with those 2...
