Albirex is indeed a satellite club but Super Reds is not.. They purposely changed from Korean Super Reds to Super Reds so that they can becoming more of a local club but sadly they have yet to sign any local players.

Not to that the gloss out of DPMM, even without your foreigners you should be able to do well against the bottom teams but might struggle against the top teams.

I have to admit most of the Brunei players are at the level of our 2nd tier players and hope you guys can actually do better in regional games.

The reason Super Reds changed their name was never quite clear. I was always under the belief it was meant to be some kind of re-packaging exercise to (partly) dissociate itself from its founding management, who I think are all gone now?

Historically, few if any of the early batches of Albirex players who featured in Singapore made it into the J-League. One Albirex graduate who did land himself a J-League club was Kazuya Myodo, but ironically he didn't leave much of an impression when he was here.

As for the Super Reds case, I'm not sure where all their players have gone. Oh, yes, some of them ended up going back to... Super Reds.

Heck, even a couple of the old Liaoning and Dalian players have gone on to feature in their CSL squad lists, even if they rarely (if ever) get to play. But to look at the 'satellite' teams as producers of top-tier talent is sadly quite off target.

well, i do also like to see super reds and albirex ways of playing, and same here, dpmm still not impressing me. even when they win, i didnt feel satisfied.. i am not sure either they are improving or else, compare the way they played in the m-league, the way they played is much better..
Well that's sounding rather defeatist and pessimistic about your own system. Instead of trying to agitate for some kind of change in mindset at the ground level, you sound like you've given in to a system that's happy to put royal glory first and would be contented to have overseas conquest (playing and winning things in Singapore) as a replacement for developing things back home. It's like going for chemotherapy to treat tuberculosis.

That's why there is this sense of hollowness when you watch your own country's team win in our league. It's kinda nice (to you), but even you are not convinced that this is the way to go for Bruneian football. It just doesn't feel like it will last beyond three seasons - and if it does it's not because the locals are improving by leaps and bounds (are they?).

Wow if by winning the S League and the fans in Brunei felt the team had yet to really progress, what makes of the non-existant progress of our own football in Singapore?

Well, that's for us Singaporeans to answer.

But to me, DPMM's surge up the league table is not pretty largely because the brand of football they play is not attractive and inspirational. In fact I'd say that, from a football philosophy point of view, DPMM's 'success' so far is based on principles diametrically opposite to the way of play advocated by SAF, Tampines, Home, Super Reds and now, Gombak.

More and more of our teams (both local and foreign) are trying to play either expressive or smart football. DPMM, not so much. They just collect yellow cards and hope their points count matches their card count. A bit like Allardyce's Bolton, only without the Okochas and Djorkaeffs.

Hmm... can see Kevin Davies contemporary in DPMM in Berguiga.

Ivan Jerkovic is the Kevin Nolan and Rene Komar is the Ivan Campo?

Now, if they can just sign a proper Jaaskelainen and teach Simunic how to play darts...

I have wanted to say Wardun is no where near Jaaskelainen... perhaps can't find the same type of goal keeper in S League altogether maybe Sharil Jantan on drug and on a good day.

One thing draws parallel between Big Sam and Simunic is that obnoxious personality that opposing fans had grew to dislike..heehee

Shahril and Hassan are good, Lionel at his best (he's not quite there right now) was good, Yazid was good as recently as two years ago. Wardun might end up warming the bench if he signed for Sengkang right now.

But at least Big Sam speaks proper English and talks with his brains screwed on.
