Youth Olympic Games : Football
Big footballing names like Brazil, England, Italy, Spain and Nigeria will not be represented at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore next year. Instead there'll be teams like Vanuatu, San Marino and Zimbabwe.

Re: Youth Olympic Games : Football
I actually do not understand why they do not want use the FIFA Confederations Cup format, which involves the host (Singapore in this case), the 6 continental champions, and the defending champions (for now maybe the highest-rank team that did not qualify) to play here.
And the European qualifier line-up is a joke lah. Albania, Liechtenstein, Montenegro and San Marino. Probably only Albania is the only non-wooden spoonist in the senior qualification group.
And given the weak field, Singapore may just get a medal, even gold perhaps, in the YOG.

Re: Youth Olympic Games : Football
This is utterly ridiculous. only six teams? they are trying to make a total joke of the yog. now, it may seem that the ayg football was actually quite succesful in terms of the teams drawn. im for six teams only if the winners of each confederation are represented. for eg, korea should be in as they won the ayg. but minnows like san marino and vanuatu? i mean no disrespect to them but we should have a proper qualifying process to determine rightful qualifiers.

Re: Youth Olympic Games : Football
i think if the YOG is really going to be like this, the young cubs shouldn be wasted in this competition
A) The strength of the opponents are terrible
B) If we dont win it we really will be the laughing stocks for an enternity..
I really dont know what to make of this fifa announcement...it really insults the very laurals of the olympic agenda and also insults us, Singapore..
I hope that the olympic committee and FIFA can change their mind abt it because this is not going to help singapore build a football culture let alone a sporting culture...

Re: Youth Olympic Games : Football
well we could do a petition...
i dont know, but somehow dont underestimate bolivia and zimbabwe.
and there are qualifications for european teams. the european teams to watch is montenegro and albania. with montenegro having miralem sulejmani who turned his back and represented holland, and albania with lorik cana. this two countries have produced solid players, so they might have a go with YOG.
But the only reason why YOG is like that, must have boiled down to us singaporeans. No one bothers to watch. Everyone is blaming that the time is not right and bullshit. IF given time, would they come down and watch? they probably watch the ones that we can win like swimming and table tennis.
Football will die in Singapore if nothing is done. We cant possibly sit and let SSC/FAS/or whatever outside governing body that governs singapore football, run the show and set low benchmarks. Because right now, they think the situation now is cool. so they sit down drink kopi smoke winston red, and enjoy watching sleague. Infact right now, the Viet League is much better than s.league, no offence.
the other thing is FAS/SSC heard about this, why not say something? like how rafa rants about man city spending. if they have a voice, why not fas? if so, three things come into my mind, 1)fas knows about it and thinks its okay
2)dont even bother to voice it out
3)fifa/olympic body dont let us talk about it.
