Mobile communications and entertainment giant Sony Ericsson has been unveiled as the presenting sponsor for this year's inaugural National Day Challenge.
The UK-based communications company has been passionate in an ongoing commitment to bring entertainment experiences to the life of their consumers, and this year, it will go a step further, sharing the national sports experience with the underprivileged.

Mr Peter Ang (centre), VP of Marketing, APAC, Sony Ericsson, speaking at the National Day Challenge pre-match press conference of the unveiling of Sony Ericsson as a presenting sponsor, with R. Sasikumar (left), The Red Card Pte Ltd, and Gao Hongbo (right), China national coach.
Sony Ericsson will be partnering with The Red Card Pte Ltd and the Football Association in hosting 22 disadvantaged children aged six to 12 from Beyond Social Services, who will be player escorts for the Challenge. Students from the Singapore Sailing School have also been invited to grace the event to add on to the support for the Lions.
"It is terrific that we have Sony Ericsson on board as the presenting sponsor for this national celebration," said R. Sasikumar, former national footballer who is now the managing director of The Red Card "We plan to add the Kallang Roar to the annual National Day festivities by bringing in more international teams annually."
Indeed, the sports marketing consultancy hopes that this event will raise the profile of the local football, in addition to allowing the players themselves to compete against high-level opposition in a friendly atmosphere.
National pride will be at stake as both teams will lock swords for the first time in three years, since a 0-0 draw at the National Stadium, during the qualifying stage for the 2007 Asian Cup in September 2006, but 19-year-old prodigy Hariss Harun is confident of a good showing from the team.
"I feel a little more confident this time round as I am definitely not going to face another (Javier) Mascherano or Lucas (Leiva)," said Hariss, whom at 16 broke local legend Fandi Ahmad's record of being the youngest player to debut for the senior national side.
"We have not been meeting the standards set by ourselves, but the senior players are encouraging the team well and we all just want to do our best tomorrow."
Tickets on matchday itself will be on sale only from 5pm at the National Stadium, priced at $10 for Gallery seats and $15 for Grandstand seats. Students with valid concession passes and senior citizens pay $2 and $5 respectively.
