Super Reds regains top position


The scoreboard says it all - 3-0 to Super Reds
Super Reds reclaimed their position at the top of the S.League table after overcoming Dalian Shide Siwu 3-0 at the "LIVE" match on Friday night.
Super Reds exerted their dominance right from the start, and was rewarded with a goal at the 19th minute when midfielder Seo Su Jong scored from the left side.
Both Oh Ddog Yi and Park Kang Jin threatened the opponent's net on occasions, but were unable to increase their team's lead.
Dalian had their chances to equalise but they, too, were unable to convert their chances.
The break came at the 33th minute when Park ran down along the left flank and managed to get past Dalian's defence and goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Substitutions by both teams at the start of the second half was soon followed by another goal from Park as Super Reds stamped their authority to claim their victory for the match.
Super Reds looked set to put the final nail into the coffin for Dalian in the dying minutes when substitute Moon Soon Ho was tripped in the penalty box by Dalian captain Jiang Jihong, and referee S Kumar pointed to the spot immediately.
However, Park shot wide to the left to conclude the game with a victory to Super Reds and regaining their spot at the top of the table from Singapore Armed Forces FC with a point ahead of their nearest rival.
Dalian coach Pei Yong Jiu acknowledged there is a difference between the strength of his team and his opponent. However, he was satisfied with the fighting spirits of his players even though they had conceeded.
Super Reds will meet SAFFC away for the second leg of the Singapore Cup quarter finals on Monday. Both teams will meet again for both of their next league match on 30 August, with Super Reds at home this time round.
Dalian will take a break when the Singapore Cup goes underway, and will resume business when they meet Home United away on 1 September.
