This qualification is basically a 3 tiered system. The bottom teams get to play at least 3 games in the group stage of the Challenge Cup and get 2 automatic spots. That means some crap team like Afghanistan or Sri Lanka could qualify. The middle group, the 20-27 seeded teams, can get eliminated in one game. Then the top group, the 1-19 seeded teams, get at least 3 group games as well.

I think it's a little silly not to take into account the most recent matches, the WCQs (eg Turkmenistan beating Hong Kong). Why rely on the more outdated ACQ results? Otherwise the same teams will qualify each team because they get seeded highly. Oh well, at least Vietnam got seeded highly.

to be honest.. the system of basing on previous tournament result seedings started from the asian games where we group with iraq syria and indo for a pre qualifying.. they think this is a way to make teams take qualifying seriously

It take time....Asian Cup uses previous Asian Cup results as seedings, ASEAN Cup uses previous ASEAN Cup results as seedings and so on. Hence it's correct in a way. Unless they put in some weightage in the matches. E.g., a 3 pts gained against Iraq is definitely worth more than the same 3 pts gained against a lowly ranked team. But I guess it will be too much admin and computation.

If that's the case, how do ensure we can ranked higher in future tournament? Consistency! As long as we can produce some fine results consistently, our rankings will sure move up within the next few years. We already done a good job for the recent World Cup qualifying rounds. We are now at least ranked 20 in Asia for World Cup tournament. Let's try to move further up by doing a great job in the 3rd round. Come next World Cup's (2014) Asia ranking, we are sure to be above countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong,.....

so many autospots KNN.

Quote:
In Round Two, four teams from Round One shall join the sixteen (16) teams ranked 4-19. These twenty (20) teams shall be divided into five groups of four. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the tournament proper in 2011.

He meant that "just because you're a top team, you automatically qualify".

I don't particularly like the system either. But then this is what we can expect from an AFC that has too many vested political interests to maintain.

To think that the recent Asian Cup was less than 6 month ago, now they are drawing for the 2011 qualification... funny AFC...

Alght emotions aside let's analyse the system.

Suppose Round 1 seed 20-23 is paired with seed 24-27, then we (seed 21) could face)
Seed 24: DPR Korea (difficult, but 50-50 to both side)
Seed 25: Myanmar (should be able to beat)
Seed 26: Maldives (must win, otherwise ...icon_cry)
Seed 27: Turkmenistan (most difficult of the lots, but if we can get pass the Tajiks, why not the Turkmens?)

Follow by Round 2, if AFC put teams into different Pots again, then:
Pot 1: Japan, Australia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.
Pot 2: China, Thailand, Indonesia, UAE, Bahrain.
Pot 3: Oman, Malaysia, Jordan, Syria, Hong Kong.
Pot 4: Yemen and the 4 teams that qualifies from Round 1.

From here, we can see that our chance to qualify from Round 1 really depends on our draw, although not all is lost even if it is unfavourable (DPR Korea and Turkmenistan is not unbeatable).

As For Round 2, we might end up with Vietnam (Pot 1), Thailand or Indonesia (Pot 2) and Malaysia or Hong Kong (Pot 3) in our group. If we cannot qualify from the above group then .

Even in worse case if we get Iran (Pot 1), UAE or Bahrain (Pot 2) and Oman or Syria or Jordan (Pot 3), we still have a fighting chance.

Let's not cry foul about the system. We are already in it.

Let's fight to get the best out of it!

Just like how we get to the 3rd Round of the WC Qualifiers!
