Default Myanmar Football

With the recent cyclone in Myanmar and chaos last year, I think football is gonna be shaky in the country and the national team.

Why S-League no Myanmar players? It would be good if S-League open up to SEA players instead of just European ones. We have seen Thais but where are the rest?

not good enough? If u notice, there are lesser Thais and Vietnameses too in the recent years....either they are not good enough or cheaper to get from Euorpe/Africa or they are too expensive.....

I won't disagree with that. But then again, if you must fit in a myanmar player or two, into any s-league team, i'm sure some of them can play in at least the smallest teams, at least as a sub. I can argue that if there's any objections.

But I'd say that if S-league are to buy foreign players, they would rather fill the spaces with better african or european players or the best of the best SEA players, and myanmar players are not there.

Also, another factor is myanmar players are hard to reach, with the federation being hard to access. Clubs in malaysia and indonesia hunted some myanmar players after sea games in 2003 and tiger cup 04 and merdeka cup 06, but eventually there no signings.

The last batch of myanmar players in foreign teams have to be the late 80s and early 90s batch of players who played in malaysia and singapore, and some players played very well in the malaysian league. Ever since that batch, myanmar players dun go to foreign leagues

If my stats are correct, the S-League currently has six Japanese players (other tha Albirex ones of course), namely Masahiro Fukasawa, Kenji Arai, Norikazu Murakami (all SAF), Haruki Seto (Balestier), Hiroyuki Yamamoto (Sengkang), and Akihiro Nakamura (Woodlands). So it would not be right to say that all we have is European or African.

In fact the number of European is somewhat declining as well, although the number of African is rising.

And I don't remember S-League having a Vietnamese player, do we?

Foreign players have to be way better than the local in order to meet the local fans and club expectation. This is the reason why we do not have many players from lower ranking countries, and also the reason why our players are not breaking into the higher rank ones.

Quick run of numbers:

Balestier - 1 Japanese, 2 Cameroonians, 1 Nigerian + 1 African Prime League
Geylang - 2 Slovaks, 2 Brazilians
Gombak - 1 Thai, 3 Nigerians + 1 Nigerian Prime League
Home - 1 Brazilian, 2 Cameroonians, 1 Thai + 1 Thai Prime League
SAFFC - 1 Thai, 3 Japanese
Sengkang - 1 Japanese, 1 Croat, 2 Chileans
Tampines - 1 Chinese, 2 Thais + 1 Thai Prime League, not counting Serbian Sead Muratovic
Woodlands - 1 Korean, 1 Japanese, 1 Romanian, 1 Moroccan
Young Lions - 1 Chinese, 1 Englishman, 1 Nigerian

Total:
Japanese = 6
Koreans = 1
Chinese = 2
Thais = 5 + 2 Prime League
Brazilians = 3
Chileans = 2
Europeans = 5 + Sead Muratovic
Moroccans = 1
Black Africa = 9 + 2 Prime League

So, well, it looks like the Asians are still taking up the majority of our foreign slots. The Africans are the next biggest group, while the Europeans are in lower demand.

Interestingly, the days of getting Aussies and Kiwis have passed.

Myanmar in AFC Challenge Cup in India :

31 July vs Nepal
2 Aug vs Sri Lanka
4 Aug vs North Korea

A fair chance to get to the semifinals ?

Will lose to north korea, can win the other two. I do not have confidence in the team after the cyclone tragedy. I'm sure relatives of some players were hit because the Irrawaddy delta covers a huge population.
